How can digital spaces provide an experience that is parallel to, and at the same time profoundly different from, visiting the physical site it complements? The digital environment of the museum was designed to answer these questions and more as the brand was extended to reach a wide and diverse audience.

 

Website

The home page became a cinematic portal to the contents of the museum. With large, moving images and pared-down navigation, the user experience is designed to provoke curiosity. The site includes an occasional appearance of “fog” that transitions between content while different visual depths provide focus.

Audio Tour

SFMOMA’s story based audio tour, developed and produced in partnership with Detour, was designed to immerse visitors in art using location based technology that enabled a phone down, hands free experience.
