A decommissioned military installation converted into a non- profit cultural center, Fort Mason Center for Arts + Culture (FMCAC) is home to two dozen different nonprofits and hosts over 1.2 million visitors annually. Fort Mason Art, which serves as the art extension of FMCAC, was looking for a way to differentiate their seasonally based arts program from the other arts entities at the fort.

In response, Sonderby Design proposed evolving the existing identity system to allow the interlocking fortress-like lines within the existing FMCAC logo to unravel and expand into energetic ribbons that serve as colorful way finding, wrapping around and through the campus. Careful consideration was made to maintain the features of the overarching brand while capturing the vibrant and creative energy of the arts program.
